Crozant and the Painters’ Valley
Perched above the Creuse valley, the ruins of Crozant fortress overlook a landscape of rivers and cliffs that drew many Impressionist painters. The Painters’ Valley can be explored on foot, from viewpoint to viewpoint: a truly romantic outing, where you soon understand why so many artists set up their easels here.
Boussac and the Pierres Jaumâtres
To the north-east, Boussac Castle, a fifteenth-century fortress rising above the Petite Creuse, inspired the writer George Sand. Nearby, on the heights of Toulx-Sainte-Croix, the Pierres Jaumâtres form a strange pile of granite blocks surrounded by legends. An unusual walk for a mysterious second date.
The Chabrières wolves
In the hills around Guéret, the Chabrières wolf park lets you watch these fascinating animals in a vast wooded estate: an original and moving outing. To finish on a high note, the church of Moutier-d’Ahun and its carved woodwork are well worth the detour. On Lyad, members from the Creuse share their walks; it is up to you to find your exploring partner.
